In Flight Skin Care Routine

There’s no doubt that keeping up with your regular skin care routine can be difficult while traveling. Whether you can only pack travel size liquids or will be in the air for a long period of time, you may be worried about the impact a flight may have on your skin. However, if you follow these simple tips, you can help keep your skin healthy and glowing while flying!

Board with a fresh face

Before your flight, try and wash off any makeup or oil with a cleanser. If you can pack a cleanser in your carry-on and a facecloth, a quick wash in the airport will refresh your skin and remove any dirt and debris. If this is not a possible option for you, consider packing makeup wipes as an alternative for cleaning your face on the go. Finally, if you’re unable to wash your face before you travel, try to avoid a heavy face of makeup or use light products to prevent clogged pores which will help avoid breakouts.

Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize

Airplanes are notorious for incredibly dry cabin conditions, which can cause your skin to lose moisture quickly. It is important your skin stays hydrated and you can do this with a good moisturizer. If possible, keep some on you and apply regularly to your face and hands to avoid your skin drying out. Another choice is using a facial mist or hydrating spray. Similar to cream moisturizers, these sprays will help your skin to maintain moisture. The benefit of a mist is you can have all of the moisture without the sticky feeling of a cream.

Pamper yourself with a spa treatment

If you’re going to be taking a long flight, why not use this as an opportunity to treat your skin to some TLC. Face and eye masks are easy to pack and are a great way to keep your skin feeling healthy during your journey. Try a sheet mask with hydrating or moisturizing properties, or eye masks to minimize puffiness while traveling. Taking the time for self-care will help you feel relaxed and fresh when you disembark the plane.

Hydrate

It is essential to stay hydrated while flying, as with dehydration your skin can become dry and dull. Make sure to drink plenty of liquids and try to avoid excessive alcohol and caffeine as this can dehydrate you further. Eating salty foods will also reduce hydration and cause water retention which leads to puffiness, so you may want to reconsider your choice of snacks! Also, it is helpful to keep a lip balm on you to avoid chapped lips which can occur with dehydration. Use your favourite chapstick as needed to keep lips soft and hydrated.

After landing, try to clean your face as soon as possible to wash off any build up on your skin from the flight and be sure to moisturize.

We hope these tips will be beneficial so you can arrive at your destination with healthy and radiant skin!
